Granulation Plant Revamp Agrium US Inc., Conda, ID
Agrium awarded KEMWorks a contract for detailed engineering and construction supervision for the modernization of their granulation plant at Conda, Idaho.
Agrium was faced with a major expense to add a new scrubbing system on their granulation plant to meet strict emission regulations. A careful analysis of the emission showed that reducing the sources of emission would be more cost effective than an end-of-pipe solution of installing a large tailgas scrubber.
The rotary cooler was replaced by a bulkflow cooler eliminating that source of air emissions. For the vent system a baghouse was installed and the cleaned air from the baghouse was used a dilution air for the dryer. More efficient cyclones were added on the dryer air. In a previous project KEMWorks had installed a waste heat ammonia vapor on the Reactor/Granulator Scrubber that reduced fluorine emission to the point that a tailgas scrubber was not required on that stream.
These improvements dramatically reduced the total airflow to be scrubbed and the existing scrubbers could meet the new emission limits.
