Waste Minimization
KEMWorks is active in a wide variety of environmental engineering projects. Our emphasis is on waste minimization. We can provide technical solutions to improve recovery thus decreasing air, water and solid waste streams, and at the same time reduce pollution.
Environmental Controls
KEMWorks has technology to provide practical solutions to the problems of gaseous emissions, wastewater treatment and remediation of solid wastes. An example would be the special technology we offer for efficient, low-cost recovery of fluorine in the phosphate industry. By enabling the practical reclamation of value-added by-products, we can provide the means to operate a clean low-emission cooling tower system, which replaces many acres of acidic cooling ponds. KEMWorks also offers expertise in the further processing of waste phosphogypsum. This technology will pay for itself by the improved recovery of product values while allowing the discharge of a much more environmentally friendly solid waste stream.
We have designed and installed many scrubbers for removal of fumes, dust and acid gases. Industries served in this emission control function include; incinerators, acid plants, fertilizer plants and power plants.
Scrubbing fumes in phosphoric acid and granulation plant is a particularly difficult duty. Emissions limits are getting tighter and this means that scrubbers must become more efficient - but this usually comes at the cost of more frequent cleaning and higher maintenance.
We have developed a cross-flow scrubber design using KIMRE packing that is extremely easy to clean and maintain. KIMRE packing modules and spray headers can be removed from the top of the scrubber by a monorail for easy off-line cleaning. A scrubber was designed for Agrium in Conda to operate 365-days a year.
Plant Closure and Remediation
KEMWorks strong process orientation has also found application to the closure and remediation of idled chemical industry sites. We can provide the practical engineering solutions for recovery and/or treatment of on-site wastes. We are familiar with regulatory and permitting process to ensure that the chosen solution will be readily approved by state and local agencies.
