Insulin Plant - Project Management Novo Nordisk, Kalundborg, Denmark
Novo Nordisk, a leading worldwide manufacturer of insulin, is currently expanding their manufacturing capacity at their Kalundborg, Denmark production facility. Novo Nordisk Management required adherence to a schedule driven project execution plan without the normal increase in capital expenditures typical of a time driven project.
In conjunction with KEMWorks’ European Alliance member, KEMWorks was contracted to supply Project Management Counseling Services to Novo Nordisk for this project. The objective of the Project Management Counseling activities were to assist the Novo Nordisk Project and Management Teams in the transition from existing project execution styles to one of mutual schedule/cost as the driver. The Project Management Counseling Services initially were for three months. Novo Nordisk requested assistance in the preparation of contractual documents, review of engineer/contractor supplied contract content, and to develop a Project Management “Toolkit” for use during the project execution.
Novo Nordisk has extended KEMWorks’ Project Management Counseling services beyond the initial contracted timeframe to continue in the transition. Continuing activities will include tracking and reporting of cost and schedule criteria against the physical percent complete reported by the E and C firm, to perform audit checks throughout the project, to assist in subcontractor scope control, and to implement owner/operator based Project Controls systems for internal Novo Nordisk management reporting. Mentoring of the Project Team is also to continue. The project duration runs thru 2004.
