Human Antibodies Plant - EPC Bid Package

Medarex Inc. produces fully human antibodies using their patented and proprietary expression system at their facility located in Bloomsbury, NJ.. Medarex awarded KEMWorks a contract for the preparation and development of an EPC bid package and for assistance in selection of the contractor for the Detailed Design, Procurement and Construction Management of the project. Contracts for Project Management of the Engineering Contractor responsible for preliminary design and one for management of the selected EPC Contractor were also awarded to KEMWorks.

The new manufacturing center and existing annex facility expansion is designed to provide small-scale manufacturing (SSM) and large-scale manufacturing (LSM). The Medarex facilities will produce fully human antibodies via mammalian cell culture. The systems will use perfusion bioreactors followed by harvest, separation and purification of the expressed antibody.

The preliminary engineering design was completed in December 2001 on a fast-track basis. KEMWorks engineers worked as an integral part of the Medarex project team providing management of the engineering contractor and their deliverables. Board approval for the EPC phase of the project was obtained in principal in January 2002. The project is planned for completion in 2003.
