Phosphate Mill Modernization Cargill Crop Nutrition, Riverview, FL
Production of Triple Superphosphate requires very fine grinding of the phosphate rock feed. Cargill's existing system is only capable of handling dried phosphate rock and a change in supplier meant they would have to handle wet rock.
KEMWorks pointed out that the need for a separate drier could be avoided if the existing mills were modernized so that they could simultaneously dry and grind. KEMWorks was awarded a contract to prepare all process and mechanical engineering designs necessary for the upgrade of the roller mill systems.
KEMWorks also prepared permit documentation showing that the new operating concept would be in full compliance with environmental regulations. The modernized plant was operational in 1997.
Project Highlights:
- Plant started up in 1997.
- Over $1 million a year in savings realized over buying TSP grade rock from a competitor.
