September 2001 - Uzbekistan Texuna Fertilizer Plant The U.S. Trade & Development Agency (TDA) announced the approval of a grant in the amount of $500,000 to partially fund a $783,334 feasibility study on the reconstruction of a fertilizer plant complex at Almalyk in Uzbekistan.
Cotton is Uzbekistan's largest agricultural output and a significant foreign exchange earner. Due to a lack of investments in Uzbekistan's fertilizer industry, the output of fertilizers and therefore cotton has declined in recent years. This project aims to increase production of fertilizers and thereby satisfy local demand, while instituting efficiencies and environmental improvements at the plant. Cotton producers would realize savings and increase production capability through the purchase of better fertilizers on the domestic market. The tasks to be performed for the feasibility study include: 1) technical, economic, environmental and financial analysis of the project; 2) review of regulatory issues; 3) proposed equipment and services for project implementation; 4) development of an implementation plan; and 5) preparation of a final report. KEMWorks will provide basic engineering and overall project management services.
