KEMWorks recognizes that no two phosphate deposits are exactly alike and that to effectively engineer an operation to a specified deposit an integrated approach must be used to deliver that final product, whether this is phosphate rock or fertilizer product at a competitive price.

KEMWorks personnel are familiar with the latest advances in mineral processing and fertilizer technology and have experience in applying this technology in the most cost effective manner.

We have the team to develop your project from early conceptual design through process testing, project delivery, and operations.

Marten Walters - Chemical Engineer

Marten Walters is President of KEMWorks.  He has more than 30 years experience in the design, start-up and operation of fertilizer and chemical plants. Marten has designed and started up phosphoric acid and granulation plants in Australia, Brazil, China, Yugoslavia, US and UK.  He was consultant to JPMC for the revamp of a phosphate complex, to Petrokimia Gresik, Indonesia for a World Bank-funded study of a fertilizer complex.  Most recently he was responsible for the process design and start-up of a phosphoric acid plant in Morocco.  He was honored as the 1997 Engineer-of-the-Year by Central Florida AIChE.

Christopher B. Earl - Chemical Engineer

Chris Earl has 40 years experience in the chemical process industry.  As Chief Engineer of KEMWorks Technology, he is responsible for activities in the fertilizer industry.  He has carried out the process design and start-up of eleven world-scale phosphoric acid plants. In the last few years he designed and implemented a series of revamps to phosphoric acid plants in N. America and Brazil. Most recently he led the design for a phosphoric acid plant in Morocco, and consulted for OCP for a 200 km slurry pipeline. He is a registered professional engineer in the State of Florida and was honored as the 1991 Engineer-Of-The-Year by Central Florida AIChE.

Charles B. Snyder - Chemical Engineer

Chuck Snyder has 30 years experience in the process design and operation of chemical plants in various areas of the chemical industry. Chuck has developed process design packages (i.e., heat and material balances, PFD’s, P&ID’s, equipment specifications, and operating manuals) for fertilizer, petrochemical, food, and pharmaceutical industry.  He has also been involved in commissioning, start-up, and troubleshooting of many of these plants including a DAP plant in Morocco in 2008.

Neil R. Greenwood, PE - Chemical Engineer

Neil Greenwood has more than 40 years experience in the fertilizer, heavy and specialty chemicals and pharmaceutical industries, including process and project design, maintenance and production supervision and construction. He is currently Engineering Manager for KEMWorks and a licensed professional engineer. He was the KEMWorks project manager for: major projects for Agrium, including a phosphoric acid expansion and modifications to the granulation plant; basic engineering for a dicalcium phosphate plant in Brazil; and production and environmental improvements for a phosphate acid plant in Mexico. He is a registered professional engineer in the State of Florida and was honored as the 1995 Engineer-of-the-Year by Central Florida AIChE.

Jamie Knez - Chemical Engineer

Jamie has over 5 years experience in process engineering. Jamie's experience includes development of material and energy balances, PFD’s, P&ID’s, equipment specifications, and compiling cost estimates for sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, and granulation plants. She has also performed similar process work in the power industry including heat recovery and environmental projects. She has experience developing, performing, and supervising pilot plant and lab testing in the fertilizer industry including new process concepts and technologies. She has also been involved with project coordination for large multi-office and international projects.

Franscisco (Paco) Sotillo - Metallurgist

Dr. Francisco J. Sotillo has more than 34 years of experience in both industrial and academic aspects of metallurgy, leaching, and mineral processing.  Dr. Sotillo started his career as a foreman at a mining company and is now a recognized expert in the beneficiation of phosphate rock and sulfide ores. Dr. Sotillo is the author of 36 publications on sulfides, phosphate, coal, and metallic oxide ores.

Ed Finch - Metallurgist

Ed Finch has an MS in Metallurgical Engineering from Colorado School of Mines and has more than 35 years experience in phosphate, nickel, gold, and fluorspar beneficiation. He is a practical hands-on metallurgist and was Chief Metallurgist for Mississippi Phosphates, Agrico, and Gardinier His most recent projects include, Mosaic Wingate Creek, JPMC Eshidya and Ma’aden, Saudi Arabia.
